Specialties of a Modern SWOT Analysis Team
Strengths Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats or SWOT analysis is a brilliant 1960's management tool that is holistic assessment of an organisation's strategic position, with strengths and weaknesses often categorised as internal forcing factors within SWOT, while opportunities and threats typically relate to external forcing factors. However, overtime it has been diluted by "box tickers" into a static list of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats divided into four quadrants on a SWOT Matrix.
Such a static list is useless unless it is used to formulate specific strategies and tactics that build upon strengths, overcome weaknesses, leverage opportunities and mitigate threats. It is akin to the combat namesake a SWAT Team having a static list referring to a building floor plan, the number of assailants in the building, knowledge of the weapons in use, the lighting, locked doors, hostages, booby traps and escape exits. Unless the SWAT Team as an overarching strategy to extract the hostages and are willing to "go-in" and extract the hostages in a tactical manner, tactics that they are trained in, then its just "academic".
Evahan works with its clients to prepare a modern SWOT Analysis. At its core a modern SWOT Analysis is still underpinned by brainstorming, identifying and categorising Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, but then it goes much further.
Using the Evahan approach modern SWOT Teams are trained to think of every strategy and tactic in terms of the sporting parlance of Offensive or Defensive.
The Evahan approach takes hard work, because team members move well beyond creating a static list which they look at and say "that's nice!". Team members have to develop macro strategies with objectives, goals and a mission and envisage tactical scenarios to deploy to achieve the objectives of building upon strengths, overcoming weaknesses, leveraging opportunities and mitigating threats to accomplish the mission.
In five steps develop macro strategies with objectives, goals and a mission and envisage tactical scenarios to deploy to achieve the objectives of building upon strengths, overcoming weaknesses, leveraging opportunities and mitigating threats to accomplish the mission.
